·ï»Ë²ÊƱƽ̨ University (KeMU) has officially entered a new era of technological advancement with the launch of its groundbreaking partnership with Buji Drones. On July 15, 2025, the Main Campus buzzed with excitement as Vice-Chancellor Rev. Prof. John Ataya, accompanied by senior university leadership, unveiled this transformative collaboration, with Buji Drones CEO Mr. Wilson Matumbi, that promises to revolutionize how students and staff engage with drone technology.
The partnership is centred around four key pillars i.e. Research & Development, Education & Curriculum Development, Campus Operations & Management, and Community Engagement & Commercialization, and will establish KeMU as a premier destination for drone education in Kenya.

Through the newly established University Drone Lab and Club, students will have access to an impressive array of drone-related courses and certifications:
• CAA-Approved Drone Flight & Safety Certification – ensuring graduates meet international aviation standards
• UAV Aerial Survey & Mapping – opening doors to careers in surveying, construction, and environmental monitoring
• Smart Agriculture with Drones – addressing Kenya’s agricultural challenges through precision farming
• Drone Data Analytics (GIS, NDVI) – combining technology with data science for actionable insights
• Drone Maintenance & Engineering – developing technical expertise in emerging aviation technology
• Drone Logistics & Delivery – preparing students for the future of commercial transportation
The program also features a Community Drone Innovations Lab and drone club, fostering creativity and entrepreneurship among students.

*A Sweet Addition: AI in Education*
As part of this comprehensive partnership, KeMU will also deliver an AI in Education course through Google Gemini Academy, ensuring our students stay ahead of the curve in both drone technology and artificial intelligence applications.
The launch ceremony brought together KeMU’s top leadership, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Dr. Evans Mwiti, Dean of the School of Science and Technology Dr. John Muchiri, Chair of the Department of Information Technology Mr. Timothy Anondo, Director of the Digital Campus Mrs. Jenu John, Director of Marketing Dr. Rosemary Kirambia, and Dean of Students Dr. Esther Mbaabu, members of staff and students.
